Denmark's bilateral development effort in Ukraine is provided through the Danish Neighbourhood Programme, covering Ukraine and Georgia, which is entering its fourth phase in 2017. This phase has a duration of five years, until 2021, with an overall budget frame of DKK 860 million for the five year period. Of these funds, 70% are expected to be allocated to Ukraine.

The Danish Neighbourhood Programme has the overall objective to promote a peaceful and stable Europe with freedom and progress. The Programme has two thematic objectives: i) Promoting human rights and democracy, and ii) Strengthening sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Programme interventions contribute to the development of a democratic society with responsible and accountable authorities, an active civil society as well as free and well-functioning markets.
