The inspiration for Bluetooth was the medieval Danish king Harald Bluetooth (Danish: Harald Blåtand).

The Bluetooth wireless spec design received its well-known moniker in 1997. In reference to the manner in which Bluetooth devices would link separate technologies, Bluetooth recalled the reign of King Harald Bluetooth, noted for his ability to unite the tribes of Denmark into a single kingdom through peaceful negotiations.

The Bluetooth logo consists of the Scandinavian runes for Harald Blåtand’s initials, H (ᚼ) and B (ᛒ).
