Winterization and Early Recovery

Heavy shelling has had a serious impact on Mykolaiv city and region. Urgent efforts were necessary to restore housing, water supply, heat and electricity, as well as industrial facilities.
Mykolaiv city and region were exposed to heavy shelling for about eight months, until the liberation of Kherson in on 11 November 2022. Hundreds of residential and non-residential buildings in Mykolaiv city and region were severely damaged, or at least needed significant repairs. Furthermore, in the early weeks of the full-scale invasion, the Russian missiles damaged the pipes that provided water supply from the Dnipro river to Mykolaiv city and the region. Consequently, the heating systems and electricity networks throughout the region had been damaged. Urgent efforts were taken to prepare the city and the region for the upcoming winter.
