Ambassador Ole Egberg Mikkelsen participated in conference "Financing Ukrainian Recovery: Transparency, Accountability and Integrity"
In his speech, Ambassador Ole Egberg Mikkelsen addressed concerns of corruption in the context of Ukraine’s recovery process and the patronage the patronage for the rebuilding and reconstruction of the city and the oblast of Mykolaiv that Denmark has assumed.
"Last but not least there were worries about corruption. By assuming the patronage of the reconstruction process we would be directly exposed to the risk of corruption. It would be less risky to give the money to multinational institutions and let them assume the risk. However, when our Prime Minister came to Kyiv approximately shortly after president Zelensky’s speech the partnership was sealed based inter alia on the argument that we cannot wait for peace and a big plan. We need to start reconstruction immediately" – says Ambassador Ole Egberg Mikkelsen.
The participants of the conference included Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine (tag) Oleksandr Kubrakov, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Organisation of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Plannin (tag) Olena Shuliak, Head of the Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy in the Verkhovna Rada (tag) Anastasia Radina and Chairman of the budget committee of the Verkhovna Rada (tag) Roksolana Pidlasa.
The conference was initiated by EU Anti-Corruption Initiative, Financed by the EU, co-financed and implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
