DENMARK'S AMBASSADOR WAS AWARDED THE HONOURABLE ORDER OF THE MYKOLAIV REGION

On Saturday 9 August, ambassador Ole Egberg Mikkelsen was awarded the honourable order of  Saint Nicholas (First Class). The order is named after the patron saint of seafarers, reflecting Mykolaiv’s legacy as a maritime centre.
Ambassador Ole Egberg Mikkelsen celebrated International Youth Day in the sunny south of Ukraine, amidst the young people of Mykolaiv region, at the 3rd Regional Youth Physical Culture and Sports Games “Tiligul Games 2025”. The event brought together talented youth, local leaders, and cultural figures.
During the celebration, Ambassador Mikkelsen was awarded the order by the Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, governor Vitalii Kim. The award recognises his personal contribution to strengthening interregional partnerships and Denmark’s humanitarian, economic, and institutional support for Mykolaiv region.
“Denmark has become a true friend and partner to Mykolaiv. We value your constant support – from humanitarian projects to economic and reconstruction initiatives. This award is a symbol of our gratitude and respect,” said Vitalii Kim.
Ambassador Mikkelsen expressed his deep gratitude for the award:
“It is a great honour to receive this distinction. It is however not for me personally. It is for Denmark and all Danes who continue to support Ukraine and Mykolaiv after more than three years of Russian aggression. It is also a recognition of the entire embassy team, who work tirelessly to support Ukraine. Denmark will continue to support Mykolaiv and Ukraine in the fight for freedom and in recovery after the war. We believe in your future – and we will stand with you.”
