MINISTER FOR SENIOR CITIZENS OF DENMARK PARTICIPATES IN SOCIAL POLICY SUMMIT IN LVIV

On 22 May, Denmark’s Minister for Senior Citizens, Mette Kierkgaard, visited Ukraine to take part in the Second Ministerial Social Policy Summit, held in Lviv.

The summit, titled “Building Resilient Societies: Innovative Solutions for Demographic Change”, gathered high-level representatives from over 20 countries, including EU Member States, as well as delegates from the European Commission, OECD, World Bank, and UNICEF.

As Ukraine continues to face significant demographic challenges — such as declining birth rates, an aging population, and the displacement of millions due to Russia’s full-scale invasion — the summit aimed to foster dialogue on shared solutions. Discussions centred on strengthening strategic partnerships in the social policy field, with a focus on issues like family support, active aging, integration of persons with disabilities into the labour market, and social inclusion.

During her visit, Minister Mette Kierkgaard also joined UNHCR for a field visit in Lviv to meet displaced senior citizens and hear directly about their experiences and needs. With support from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNHCR continues to assist in providing access to essential social services for senior citizens affected by the war.
