MYKOLAIV CITY DAY: CELEBRATING THE PARTNERSHIP

On September 14th, Mykolaiv celebrated its City Day with a range of events showcasing the Danish-Ukrainian partnership.

The day began with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Novo Nordisk, the Embassy, and the Mykolaiv City Council. As a result, Mykolaiv became the 50th city worldwide, and the second in Ukraine, to join the "Cities for Better Health" programme.

Following this, Mayor Sienkevych and Governor Kim inaugurated a mural located opposite the Danish Embassy Office in Mykolaiv. The mural, a gift from the city to the Danish people, recognizes the support Denmark has provided to the city and region.

The embassy team also joined the municipal and regional leadership in a bike ride through the city streets, celebrating under Ukrainian and Danish flags.

The bike parade concluded near the city's Berth 8. According to a decree adopted by the Regional Administration and signed by the City Mayor, the nearby park has been renamed "Danish Solidarity Square."

Deputy Head of Mission Jens Alsbirk and Head of the Embassy Office in Mykolaiv, Jakob Torrild Hansen, had the honour of joining the city authorities for the flag parade. Accompanied by a military orchestra, the parade participants carried Mykolaiv’s giant city flag and marched from the city’s main Soborna Square to Chestnut Square, where the City Day celebrations were officially launched.

In their speeches, the Danish representatives expressed their joy in seeing Mykolaiv’s progress from 2022 to the rapidly changing and dynamic city it has become.

"The first phase of the Denmark-Mykolaiv partnership was focused on humanitarian needs and urgent recovery. Now, we are entering a phase aimed at ensuring that the city and region fully resume their economic activity so that our cooperation becomes a mutually beneficial partnership," said Deputy Head of Mission Jens Alsbirk.

"We encourage the people of Mykolaiv to envision their city's future and share their ideas with us. Denmark will support making that vision a reality," said Jakob Torrild Hansen, Head of the Embassy Office in Mykolaiv.
