BIOGAS WORKSHOP: UKRAINIAN MARKET

The online workshop involving Danish and Ukrainian stakeholders took place on May 8th.

The workshop was jointly organized by the Embassy of Denmark, with the participation from Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, the Danish Energy Agency and the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine.

Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk updated on the legislative novelties that are deemed to raise the commercial viability of biogas production.

Three Ukrainian companies that operate in agricultural business (MHP Eco Energy, VITAGRO, Gals Agro Group) delivered presentations about their successful biogas projects already implemented and shared experiences so far, as well as spoke about the relevant prospects in this area. Denmark’s two major state owned Export and Investment Funds EIFO and IFU (represented at the Embassy) shared possible financial solutions that would enable Ukrainian stakeholders develop their activities in this new and promising sector.

In his keynote speech, Ambassador Ole Egberg Mikkelsen stated that “Right now Ukraine’s energy system is under relentless attack. Just two weeks ago I went to Kharkiv. I saw with my own eyes what the Russians are trying to achieve in terms of destroying the energy system to make the city un-inhabitable. Denmark is therefore strongly committed to support Ukraine not only with defence equipment but we want to support Ukraine’s energy system more resilient. This is where today’s workshop comes into the picture. So biogas has a lot to do with Danish diplomacy and Danish-Ukrainian relations, and also with the green transition, proudly championed by Denmark. That is why we are hosting the workshop today”.
