DANISH EXPERTS SHARE ENERGY EFFICIENCY SOLUTIONS WITH UKRAINE

Last week, energy experts from the Danish Energy Agency visited Kyiv to collaborate with Ukrainian authorities on initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency across the country. As Ukraine faces a challenging winter, the visit focused on both immediate and long-term strategies to enhance energy security in households, industries, and public buildings.

Immediate Measures for Energy Security

In preparation for the upcoming heating season, Danish experts emphasized the importance of immediate energy-saving measures. These efforts are designed to bolster Ukraine’s energy security, providing practical solutions that can be quickly implemented to reduce energy consumption during potential shortages.

A key initiative is the development of a new online application, created in partnership with Ukrenergo. This tool will enable Ukrainian consumers to take an active role in responsible energy consumption, especially during times of limited supply. Further details about the application are expected to be announced soon.

Knowledge Sharing: Adapting Danish Campaigns to Ukraine

As part of the visit, materials from Denmark’s highly successful energy savings campaign were shared with Ukraine’s State Agency for Energy Efficiency (SAEE). These resources, aimed at empowering households to cut energy use, will be translated and adapted to meet the specific needs of Ukrainian consumers. The translated materials will be available soon, helping to engage various stakeholder groups and reach as many households as possible.

For those seeking immediate advice, the original recommendations are currently available on the Danish site, SparEnergi.dk, though a working knowledge of Danish is required.

Industry Highlights: Carlsberg Group Ukraine Brewery

The visit also included a tour of Carlsberg Group Ukraine’s brewery, where Danish and Ukrainian representatives saw first-hand how the brewery has integrated advanced energy management systems. The site uses biogas produced from its own wastewater plant to enhance energy efficiency and ensure resilience during power outages. Carlsberg is on track to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2030.

The tour, attended by representatives from Ukraine’s Ministry for Restoration, the SAEE, and the Mykolaiv Regional Decarbonization Office, provided an opportunity to discuss how such innovative practices can be replicated in Ukraine’s broader industrial sector. Discussions also touched on improving the regulatory environment to foster further advancements in energy efficiency across industries.

Building a Sustainable Future Together

In addition to industrial solutions, the Danish delegation met with Ukraine’s Deputy Minister for Energy, Roman Andarak, to explore future cooperation on smart, efficient energy renovations for public buildings. Drawing on Danish building standards and digital optimization tools, this collaboration aims to create energy-efficient public infrastructure that can significantly reduce consumption and costs.

The Embassy of Denmark in Ukraine is proud to facilitate these initiatives, which are part of the Ukraine-Denmark Energy Partnership (UDEPP). As energy security becomes more critical, these timely collaborations are paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable energy future in Ukraine.
