DANISH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (DBU) DONATES FOOTBALL CLOTHES AND BALLS TO MYKOLAIV REGION

In a significant act of solidarity and support, the DBU has provided the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration with a comprehensive donation of sports equipment, specifically tailored for the youth sports programs that operate under the local Department of Youth and Sports. The contribution includes over 4,200 football items such as 100 footballs, 500 water bottles, and 500 sets of various Hummel sports forms, ensuring a wide range of new sporting opportunities for the children.
The shipment was made in collaboration between Danish Football Association, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Embassy in Ukraine, while Mærsk arranged for the speedy and timely delivery all the way from Denmark to Mykolaiv free of charge.

Denmark assumed special patronage over the city and region of Mykolaiv following the request from President Zelensky, made during his address to the Danish parliament in the tense times of March 2022. Since then, this patronage has evolved into a unique multi-faceted partnership that covers multiple areas of cooperation. In these challenging times, it is more important than ever to support the wellbeing of young people through sports. This donation represents not only a gift of sports equipment but also a beacon of hope, fostering resilience and community spirit among the children of Mykolaiv", says Ambassador Ole Egberg Mikkelsen.

"The war in Ukraine has affected us all deeply, where millions of Ukrainian children have become innocent victims and also experience limitations in their usual leisure activities such as football. Therefore, we are happy to be able to contribute with football items, which we hope can spread joy and hopefully create some freedom in an otherwise very difficult everyday life for the Ukrainian children in the area," says DBU's managing director, Erik Brøgger Rasmussen.

Difficult security situation prevents local sport clubs from being fully operational. Additional efforts are now required in order to motivate and support the youngsters who keep practicing sports. Therefore, we are grateful to the Danish Football Association and Maersk for their joint work that helps our local community to keep spirits high despite the ongoing war”, says Head of Regional Military Administration Vitaliy Kim.

To celebrate the donation, a friendly match was played on Friday April 26th, by the football teams representing the Danish embassy and Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration. The match ended in a friendly draw and will hopefully be repeated in the future.
