Danish Foreign Minister Kofod Addressed the Danes with a Strong Message of Support to Ukraine

May 4th is traditionally commemorated in Denmark as the day when Denmark was freed from the German occupation in 1945. This year’s commemoration had a special meaning for many Europeans, in light of the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod delivered a speech to the numerous Danes who came to Bispetorvet in Aarhus to commemorate the end of the WW2 and to show their solidarity with Ukraine, with torches and candles lit in their hands, while Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen addressed the Danes who gathered at Rådhuspladsen in Copenhagen. Their speeches were followed by the video address from President Zelensky aired directly from Kyiv, on big screens.

Minister Koffod had just returned from his trip to Ukraine. In his personal speech, the Minister reassured that  “Ukraine does not stand alone. We stand with Ukraine. We stand for peace, freedom and self-determination. We stand for unity and solidarity. And let every single candle be a heartfelt greeting to the Ukrainian people from Denmark”.
