DANISH MINISTER OF CLIMATE, ENERGY AND UTILITIES IN KYIV

On April 8th and 9th, Minister Lars Aagaard was in Kyiv with an extensive visit.

Over the course of two busy days, the Minister and his team managed to accomplish a lot.

Right from the start they've announced a new contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund amounting to 40 million DKK (approximately 5.8 million USD).

Together with Ukraine’s Minister of Energy German Galushchenko and his team, Minister Aagaard signed a Letter of Agreement on establishing energy partnership in the field of biogas that can help strengthen both Ukrainian and European energy security in the long run. As a big agricultural country, Ukraine has great opportunities to produce and export biogas, and Denmark has the experience and know-how to support this development.

Danish Minister also met with Ukraine’s Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov and his team. The ministers and the Ukrainian partners signed the Memorandum on Partnership between the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure, Danish Ministry of State University of Information and Communication Technologies, Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute to launch exchange programmes for Ukrainian students in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency in Denmark; later on, the participants planted a symbolic tree of friendship in the University yard.

Minister Lars Aaagaard had a fruitful discussion with a group of Ukrainian MPs from the Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities Services chaired by MP Andriy Gerus and met with Anna Zamazeeva, head of Ukraine’s State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, to discuss Danish assistance to Ukraine in these respective areas

Additionally, Minister and his team held a discussion with Deputy Head of the Office of the President Rostyslav Shurma regarding Denmark’s short-term and long-term support to Ukraine, highlighting the need for dedicated export credits designed to mobilize investments in private and public companies and institutions despite the complex risks due to the condition of war, in this regard the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO) was praised and should be the benchmark for international finance.

Later delegation went on site visits to several energy facilities around Kyiv to witness the consequences of Russian air attacks and international efforts to rebuild them

Finishing their visit, Minister and the members of the delegation paid a visit to the iconic Maidan Square and St. Michael’s Square to pay tribute to those fallen in the Ukrainian fight for freedom, and also to have glimpses of the beautiful Ukrainian capital in early morning spring sun
