FOREIGN MINISTER LARS LØKKE RASMUSSEN VISITS KYIV AND LAUNCHES DENMARK’S LARGEST COUNTRY PROGRAM FOR UKRAINE

On Friday, September 12, Minister for Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen visited Kyiv. Among others, he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Minister for Reconstruction Oleksiy Kuleba, as well as representatives from Danish and Ukrainian defense industries. The Foreign Minister also launched Ukraine Transition Programme, the largest Danish country program ever.
The Minister’s visit to Ukraine underlines Denmark’s continued strong commitment to supporting the country—politically, civilly, and militarily. Lars Løkke Rasmussen visited, among other places, a Ukrainian defense equipment manufacturer, and he also met with representatives from the two anti-corruption units NABU and SAPO. Furthermore, the Foreign Minister attended a reception marking the new partnership between Terma’s and a Ukrainian defence company. The establishment represents an important milestone in Danish-Ukrainian cooperation.
“Denmark supports Ukraine both in the short and the long term. In the short term, it is crucial that we in Europe increase our military support and give Ukraine the best possible hand. That is why we are also intensifying cooperation between Danish and Ukrainian defence companies. In the long term, we must help Ukraine with reconstruction and reforms on its path toward the EU,” said Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
During the trip, the Foreign Minister also visited Kyiv Vocational College of Construction and Municipal Services, a technical school that specializes in training and retraining young Ukrainians in sectors crucial for Ukraine’s reconstruction and European integration. The school cooperates with local businesses and has established internship programs. Here, the Foreign Minister met with young students and several of the partner organizations that the new country program for Ukraine will support.
