IDAHOT - 17 May 2023

17 May is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT). This year, we celebrate IDAHOT as we mark the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

IDAHOT was marked for the first time in 2004. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to the violence, discrimination and suppression experienced by LGBTQI+ persons.

Denmark has always stood in front and often been first when taking new steps to promote protection and ensure equal treatment and equal rights for LGBTQI+ persons. The Danish Government wishes for everyone to be treated equally irrespective of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics. In Denmark as well as abroad.

Today, the Embassy is flying the rainbow flag. The Ambassador has had a meeting with representatives of Ukraine’s LGBTQI+ organizations who shared their thoughts on the current situation pertaining to their rights in Ukraine.
The Embassy of Denmark, together with other Embassies, has co-signed a Joint Statement. “On May 17 and throughout the year we are committed to working in solidarity with government and civil society organizations towards the goal of enhancing the equality and inclusion of LGBTQI+ persons. No one should be subjected to discrimination or violence because of who they are.”
