Jeppe Kofod visited the contact line in eastern Ukraine

Yesterday the Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod visited Joint Forces Operations Area.

On the same day, Denmark also announced the allocation of 164 million DKK for a comprehensive new support program for Ukraine. The program aims to strengthen the country's resilience and ability to deal with the many consequences of the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod states:

"Ukraine is acutely threatened by the massive and completely unheard of military build-up we see from the Russian side close to the Ukrainian border. I myself have just visited the contact line and seen with my own eyes how hard this conflict has taken its toll on the Ukrainian people.

The government will not just look on passively. Our new support package is quite comprehensive and every penny is needed. At the same time, we are sending a clear signal of our solidarity with Ukraine. The Ukrainian people must know that they are not alone in their struggle for sovereignty and independence ”.

The program includes both stabilizing, development-oriented and defence-oriented efforts. Among other things, some of the funds will go to strengthen security and cohesion in Ukraine's eastern regions.

Support is also provided for Ukraine's defence reform and capacity building of the Ukrainian defence.
