NORDIC-UKRAINE SUMMIT IN REYKJAVIK
The Nordic countries and Europe must increase their investments in Ukraine's defence industry. That is the message from Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed in Reykjavik, Iceland. She attended a Nordic-Ukrainian Summit with Ukrainian President Zelensky and the Prime Ministers of Iceland, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The leaders discussed ways the Nordic countries can support Ukraine and advance President Zelensky’s victory plan. Also, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and President Zelensky held a bilateral meeting on October 29th.
"We have an obligation to maintain our strong support for Ukraine because Putin is not stopping. We in the Nordic community agree on this. We must invest more in Ukraine's defence industry so that Ukraine can produce the weapons it needs. This approach is efficient and will allow weapons to reach the front line faster. In the Nordic countries, we are also united in the belief that Ukraine belongs in the Euro-Atlantic family," said Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
The Nordic countries rank among the largest contributors to military aid for Ukraine relative to their size. Denmark alone has provided Ukraine with 51.9 billion DKK in military support and 5.2 billion DKK in civilian support since Russia's invasion in February 2022, making Denmark one of the most significant supporters of Ukraine.
