OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE UKRAINIAN-DANISH YOUTH HOUSE IN MYKOLAIV

On January 24, 2025, the Ukrainian-Danish Youth House officially opened its physical space at 59 Shevchenko Street in Mykolaiv. This milestone marks a significant step in creating opportunities for young people in the region and fostering a community for civic engagement and development.

The opening event brought together local youth, representatives of public organizations, and government officials. After a year of dedicated work by both local and Danish teams, the space is now ready to welcome the youth of Mykolaiv and visitors to the city.

Since its establishment in 2024, the Ukrainian-Danish Youth House has implemented five key programs focusing on dialogue and community building, local project development, urban space transformation, civic activism, grant management and support for youth initiatives.

The opening event featured remarks from:

  • Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, Ambassador of Denmark to Ukraine, who emphasized the need to provide opportunities for young people in frontline cities like Mykolaiv, to make staying and thriving in their communities a viable choice.
  • Julie Arnfred Bojesen, Director of the Ukrainian-Danish Youth House, who highlighted the incredible potential and determination of Mykolaiv’s youth.
  • Carsten Haurum, Chairman of the Board of the Danish Cultural Institute, who celebrated the fruitful collaboration between Ukraine and Denmark.
  • Oleksandr Syenkevych, Mayor of Mykolaiv, expressed his hope that the Ukrainian-Danish Youth House would become a source of inspiration and positivity for the city’s youth.

Ambassador Mikkelsen also remarked on the importance of supporting youth in cities affected by the Russian aggression:
"The people of frontline cities are doing their utmost to restore normality despite the ongoing challenges of Russian aggression. For young people, however, the situation is particularly difficult. Unlike the older generation, they are highly mobile and can easily move to cities like Odesa, Kyiv, or even abroad to pursue better opportunities. Initiatives like the Youth House are essential to making Mykolaiv an attractive place to stay and grow. I am proud that this space is now part of that effort."
