PRIME MINISTER METTE FREDERIKSEN VISITED KYIV
The visit marked 1,000 days since Russia's full-scale invasion began.
Denmark is allocating an additional DKK 1 billion for the purchase of military equipment directly from Ukraine's defense industry. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during her visit to Ukraine. The donation has received broad support in the Danish Parliament, bringing Denmark’s total allocation for contributions via “The Danish Model” to DKK 2.3 billion.
“Denmark’s support for Ukraine remains unwavering. Ukrainians are fighting for the freedom of Europe and all of us—now also against North Korean soldiers. Europe must take greater responsibility for its own security, and that responsibility starts in Ukraine. European countries must not only continue but also step up their support, including through Ukraine’s defence industry. I am pleased that several countries have already contributed to the ‘Danish Model’ financially, and we are working hard to bring more on board,” said Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
During her visit, the Prime Minister met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Their discussions focused on continued support for Ukraine’s defence, Zelenskyy’s victory plan, and Ukraine’s aspirations for EU and NATO membership. Both the Prime Minister and the President attended a showcase of Ukraine’s newest long-range drones that are procured due to the “Danish model” of funding.
The visit also included a wreath-laying ceremony at a memorial in the village of Moshchun, a site of intense fighting in the early days of Russia’s invasion. Additionally, the Prime Minister visited Okhmatdyt children’s hospital that has suffered from Russian attacks and a military hospital treating Ukrainian defenders.
The Prime Minsiter also met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, as well as Vice Prime Minister Olga Stefanishyna.
