THE FOURTH MEETING OF THE UKRAINE-DENMARK ENERGY PARTNERSHIP
The fourth meeting of the Ukraine-Denmark Energy Partnership (UDEPP) was held in the premises of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine on 30 May 2024 with physical participation of a delegation from the Danish Energy Agency (DEA), demonstrating the strong joint ownership and management despite the challenges of war.
Both Co-Chairs - Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Ms. Svitlana Grynchuck and, on behalf of the Ambassador, Head of Cooperation at the Danish Embassy Mr. Torben Traustedt Larsen – highlighted that the partnership had never been more important. The heinous Russian attacks on Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure since March 22 was forcing renewed emphasis on the urgent needs of the energy sector to keep the lights on and, most importantly, to prepare for the coming winter. In this regard, Denmark remains a strong ally, contributing with several donations to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund that is designed for rapid response to urgent requests for energy equipment prioritised by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
The Danish development assistance for the energy sector is closely coordinated with G7+ partners and international institutions. In this field, the Steering Committee praised UDEPP for playing an essential role by supporting practical coordination as demonstrated with “The Urgent Technology Catalogue for the Ukrainian Power Sector” that was launched in January. The Catalogue provides a hands-on roadmap to identify which technologies are particularly important for safeguarding Ukraine’s energy security and has already proved a valuable tool for guiding local and regional authorities, donors and businesses to target help during the coming winter.
Finally, the Steering Committee discussed how to further improve the UDEPP going forward by strengthening the management role of the Committee and updating Ukraine’s needs assessment so it better reflects the condition of war, including the need for an agile and flexible approach to adapt to the complex and difficult situation. The next UDEPP Steering Committee meeting will be held in October/November.
