Recovery and Restoration
The first steps in the Denmark-Mykolaiv partnership took place in the spring of 2022, at a time when the city and region were still under heavy shelling. Water supply had been disrupted; many residential and public buildings were in serious need of restoration. Therefore, the first stage of cooperation was focused on practical and urgent restoration. The aim was to prepare the city and oblast for the winter and to attempt to address the citizens’ most urgent basic needs.
At a later point, broader recovery projects were developed and implemented in partnership with the local authorities, Danish NGOs, UN agencies and other stakeholders. These efforts are still under way.
